Conquer The Climb

The POWER OF FAITH had made Erik Weihenmayer to finish his two-day trek in the craggy heights of Montalban, Rizal on June 5, 2008. His experience may not had been easy at first, please read on how he conquered the climb in spite of his blindness.

Who is Erik Weihenmayer?

Erik Weihenmayer is an American adventurer, author and motivational speaker. He is regarded as the first and only blind person who conquered the world’s highest mountain and the so-called Seven Summits. He is the author of Touch the Top of the World: A Blind Man’s Journey to Climb Farther Than the Eye Can See and The Adversity Advantage, Turning Everyday Struggles into Everyday Greatness. He was featured in Time magazine honoring him a cover story.

Challenging Climb

Based on the article I have read, on Mr. Weihenmayer’s first attempt to climb, he failed and proved the limestone climb to be challenging. Despite his failure, he did not give up. Mr. Weihenmayer said that there were people who climbed the Mt. Everest but who would not be able to do like their climb that day. He added that limestone climbing was very difficult for it would test his determination to climb the overhanging rock face. For him that climb was real climbing.

Beyond The Steep Cliff

Beyond blindness, Mr. Weihenmayer sees his reason for climbing as not about getting to the top of the limestone steep cliff. He climbs because it is what he loves. For him, it is the fun to problem-solve the way to the top with hope to get up there. He further claims that whether you get to the top or not, its a sport and you are having fun with your friends, meeting people while you are in a beautiful place and doing your best. All in all it is more of the broader experience.

Appreciate Life

Mr. Weihenmayer is a great inspiration that in spite of his special challenge, he appreciates the beauty of what he is facing even if  it made him failed initially. A BIG THANK YOU to Mr. Erik Weihenmayer for showing that the POWER of BLIND FAITH is real in a naturally challenging setting from our very own place, Montalban.

No matter what you are going through, live an active and purposeful life. A steep cliff may have been hindering your way, use that FAITH to CONQUER the CLIMB!

All the best,

Perfect scripture quote for this story.

Its what is in your heart that makes the difference, not what you can see in front of you.

    • Hi Doug, pleasure to hear from you – Man of Great Faith. Putting the scripture in action gives us the POWER to be an OVERCOMER. Hope you and Debbie could get the chance to visit our place in the future. Wishing you all the best. Cheers!

Very inspiring story. Life has many climbs and if we keep the faith and remain strong, we will reach the top one step at a time.
